Variety Is The Spice of Life

Yes, but sadly our dinner table hasn't had much variety lately. I was walking in the grocery store this past weekend and passed by the tater tots. I don't know what made me think of tater tot casserole at that moment. I've never made it before, don't even truly ever remember eating it. Not to say I haven't, just that if I had, it had certainly been a while. Not really sure what ingredients would be needed, I grabbed what I thought would go in it. The first being the tater tots. Duh. Then hamburger meat, onion, cream of mushroom soup, and cheddar cheese. I decided to google a recipe for it and if I was missing something, I'd make a quick trip the next day and get it. Guess what? I did pretty good!

I was secretly dreading the "what's for dinner?" question from Kyle. Would Mr. Picky go for it or not? As anticipated, he asked me, and I told him what I was planning to cook. He wanted to know what was in it. I told him, and he says, "Cool." YAY, the kid's given it a preliminary thumbs up. Then he ate three helpings of it. So, it was a winner! That whole episode got me to thinking. I have fallen into a slump lately. I really have.

Maybe it's just that it's so hot, that cooking is miserable. Or, we just keep having the same things over and over. Most likely it's a combination of the two. But as I was browning the onions and hamburger meat for the tator tot casserole, I sat the laptop next to the microwave and emailed my sister and asked for some recipe ideas. Then I plugged in a thumb drive of recipes that my Mom gave me at Christmas. And now I'm coming to you, my bloggy friends!

Down at the bottom of my blog page are labels for my posts. I have one for recipes, and there are four or five recipes that I have shared on my blog so far. What are some of your family favorites? Something simple and good that you can whip up after a busy day. Email them to me at www.breezy_bri02@yahoo.com and I'll post a recipe each weekend. If you have an idea for a recipe sharing meme we can do once a week, I'm in, I just would have no idea how to start one up on my own. I'm just desperate for some new ideas. The ones from my sister and Mom are a good start, but I'd love to hear from you, too. My family will thank you. I mean, you can only fix spaghetti so many times before you get tired of it...but hey, the last time I made it, I used penne pasta, so it was like totally different, but not. Help. Please.

Feel free to use any of the recipes that I have under the "recipes" tab on my blog! I'm definitely going to be needing the recipe for that tater tot casserole...because who doesn't like something with the main ingredient being tater tots?!!

I've known of TT Casserole for ever, but never made it. I'm sure my kids would like it. I'll have to think on the recipe thing. Seems I serve the same old things all the time. Hopefully I can get some new ideas from here.

I know exactly how you feel. Only this year did I actually start cooking. Before, I had a rotation of maybe 5-6 dinners I would make. We did that for 6 years. Boring. So, since March, I have made a different recipe almost every night for dinner. My husband and daughter probably think an alien has taken over my body b/c ramen noodles is all they've ever known. :o) It has been great for us, and I actually enjoy the cooking...most of the time. :o) If you go to my blog and click on the label 'Recipe Of The Week', you'll find my top recipe that I made that week. All of them are really easy. Let me know if you try any!!
